“What Writing Is” Revisited

Some of my views about writing from the beginning still stand true. I still think that one of the main purposes of writing is to lead to more critical thinking, good writing means good thinking. Looking back at this point of view, even though I still believe it I think that it’s a little bit restricted in the way that I explained it. Throughout this class I have learned that writing, more than an action that is required of every human, it is also creative expression and a tool to connect through time and space. Expressing your rawest feelings through writing about any kind of situation that you might be going through can possibly help someone during your lifetime but in a completely different place, in your present but also in a very far future, you can help people that extend over your lifetime. I think it is important not to write properly but to write from the heart, write with emotion. Outside of academic writing, writing can be a great task to let go of bottled-up emotions or just overthinking, writing in general is just a good thing to do. Writing pieces like the creative riff made me realize this, while writing this piece I also learned that you could incorporate real life experiences with fiction to make it more interesting. With my cross-genre assignment, I learned to touch on topics that are important to society and to me, topics which I think bringing awareness to might help other people. I think I achieved this in all my projects, I was able to creatively write with emotion but at the same time I was able to write academically about important topics. Something that I would change is to be freer with my writing and not wait until the perfect moment comes to write, just to write on the spot. What this class made learn as a writer was to just freely write and not think thinking can be done later to organize the writing.
